Born and raised in Germany, I moved to Hawai’i with my husband, Sven, in 1998. Initially we were out for a one year adventure; but, many years later, we’re still here, enjoying all the beauty, magic and wonders of the Big Island. My journey towards teaching yoga initially started in Elementary Education. In my job as a Behavioral Health Counselor, I began leading Relaxation classes for students several years ago, and eventually became a licensed Yoga Calm Youth Instructor. My passion for helping and inspiring others to experience the benefits of relaxation, mindfulness, and yoga finally led to a Yoga Teacher Training with Hawaiian Healing Yoga in 2015, and registration with Yoga Alliance. As a yoga teacher, I much enjoy sharing the many gifts yoga has to offer, adding more joy, peace and fulfillment to my life and the lives of others.
My approach to yoga is best described by a quote of the Chinese Buddhist monk Sheng-Yen: “Be soft in your practice. Think of the method as a fine silvery stream, not a raging waterfall. Follow the stream. Have faith in its course. Never let it out of your sight. It will take you there.”
My classes are a blend of mindfulness exercises, hatha yoga postures and flows, guided imagery, meditation, and reflection. I would like to encourage my students to explore yoga as a tool for self-discovery and an experience of cultivating mindfulness.
